What does the performance of a lathe refer to?

The performance of a lathe includes: machining performance, operational performance, and parameter performance.

  • Machining performance refers to cutting efficiency (whether high-speed cutting is possible to shorten machining time and improve cutting efficiency) and the range of parts that can be machined (whether it can carry out various turning operations, including turning metric threads, inch threads, module threads and diametral-pitch threads; whether drilling, reaming and tapping can be performed; what level of dimensional accuracy and surface roughness can be achieved after machining, etc.).
  • Operational performance refers to whether there are automation and safety devices, whether chip removal is convenient, whether the number of control handles is reduced to a minimum, and whether the arrangement of the handles is reasonable and convenient.
  • Parameter performance refers to the spindle speed and feed rate ranges, center height and maximum distance between centers, tool post travel, dial graduations/indicators, motor power and speed, etc.
